What’s on your agenda for this summer? We’ve gathered a list of our favorite summer activities. Some of them are school-related but some are just fun summer activities. You’re probably already doing a bunch of them already. Once you’ve checked them all off, give us a shout! Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. (We just might send you some LearnEd gear in return!)
- Reflect. Before you dive into ways you want to improve your skillset for next school year, take a few minutes to analyze your strengths and weaknesses across the board. This allows you to inventory and prioritize your improvement.
- Take a vacation. A day trip, a week at the beach, visit family. Whatever works for your schedule and budget — just get out of your house and go visit. You’ll be surprised at how rejuvenated you feel when you return!
- Incorporate new review strategies. Remember when you were a first year teacher? And one of the most difficult parts was constantly having to start from scratch? (Take a deep breath if that’s not you anymore!) While it’s important to have a stash of go-to activities that you use repeatedly, sometimes it’s a good idea to see what else you’re missing out on!
- Read a book. Whether it’s a fun beach read or something productive for your classroom, sticking your nose in a book is a great way to practice what you preach! Click here to check out our favorite educational theory books.
- Spend an hour helping someone else. Mow a neighbor’s yard. Drop off a meal for a new mom. Help another teacher clean out/switch rooms. Volunteer for an event at your church. Bake cookies and drop them off at your school for your administrators and secretaries who are still there. Even if your summer schedule is all over the place, carve out an hour and put a smile on someone’s face — you won’t regret it!
- Plan a staycation. Getting out of town is great, but it’s also a lot of work! Pick a few days that you can just stay home. Maybe you want to binge-watch a new show or do some sightseeing in your own city.
- Follow beneficial social media accounts. Do you ever notice how much time you spend scrolling through Facebook? Or how quickly the time goes when you’re catching up on Twitter? Sometimes social media gets a bad rap, but it doesn’t have to be a waste of time if you’re following the right accounts. You can find lesson plans, teacher humor, inspiration, and so much more. And if you aren’t following us, here are our links: Pinterest // Facebook // Instagram // Twitter // YouTube
- Find new experiments. Let’s face it, labs are where kids get excited about science. Take a little time to scour the Internet for new experiments you can do in your classroom. So how many can you check off? Let us know ?
