At a meeting with science teachers last week, we had a brief discussion about how students can’t truly understand science until they can master the terminology. While it’s so important to use a variety of strategies to study vocabulary, it remains important to provide students with stability and routine.

Our Valuable Vocabulary graphic organizer has a variety of uses. It can be copied front and back to encompass up to 8 vocab terms per student. To review in a whole-class setting, cut the page into quadrants and assign each student to complete one vocabulary word it from memory.

One of the best things about this vocabulary practice is that it incorporates the prefix, suffix, and root word. With the extensive vocabulary lists for each unit, helping students break down the each term allows them to go a step beyond memorization.
